Fourth-gen Prius moved to TNGA-C, gained double-wishbone rear suspension, and introduced the AWD-e variant (rear-axle electric motor) for 2019. 1.8L 2ZR-FXE carries over with a more efficient hybrid system; EPA combined hit 56 mpg on the Eco trim. Styling polarized buyers and is widely cited as a sales drag versus the Gen 3.

Watch out: Owner reports of 12V auxiliary-battery (in the cargo area) failures earlier than expected — a small AGM, not a standard lead-acid; verify replacement spec. Otherwise reputation for durability is intact.
