Toyota Celica T230 (7th Generation)

2000–2005 · T230 · coupe

Seventh and last Celica. Base GT used the 1ZZ-FE (140 hp); the GT-S ran the Yamaha-built 2ZZ-GE with VVTL-i 'lift' cam crossover at ~6,200 rpm and an 8,200 rpm redline (180 hp). Sold alongside the MR2 Spyder; both killed for MY2006.

Watch out: GT-S 2ZZ-GE oil-starvation lift failures if oil level or grade drifts — the lift mechanism is unforgiving of low oil. GT (1ZZ-FE) pre-2003 cars share the oil-consumption issue with the MR2 Spyder generation.
