Toyota Camry 5th Generation (XV30)

20022006 · XV30 · sedan

The 5th-gen Camry (XV30) launched for the 2002 model year as a larger, sedan-only redesign that dropped the station wagon body style for the first time. Engines were the 2.4L 2AZ-FE four, the 3.0L 1MZ-FE V6, and the 3.3L 3MZ-FE V6 in the SE V6 trim from 2004 onward. Built in Georgetown, Kentucky for the US market. Trims ran LE, SE, and XLE.

Watch out: The 2.4L 2AZ-FE engine has documented oil-consumption issues on 2002-2006 Camrys, caused by piston-ring design that allowed carbon buildup and ring-land clogging. Many engines develop noticeable consumption past 80,000 to 120,000 miles. Toyota revised the piston rings starting around 2007 production; pre-2007 engines remain the at-risk population.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
