Toyota bZ4X 1st Generation
2023–2026 · EA10 · suv
The bZ4X is Toyota's first dedicated battery-electric vehicle, launched in the US for the 2023 model year. Built on the e-TNGA platform co-developed with Subaru (the mechanical twin is the Subaru Solterra). FWD uses a single 150-kW front motor; AWD uses a 80-kW motor at each axle. Battery is a 71.4-kWh pack (front-wheel-drive) or 72.8-kWh (AWD). The 2025 mid-cycle update reworked thermal management for faster DC fast charging.
Watch out: Toyota issued a major recall in June 2022 covering early bZ4X (and Subaru Solterra) units due to wheel hub bolts that could loosen, potentially allowing a wheel to come off. Production and US deliveries were halted and resumed in October 2022 once a fix was implemented. Verify any 2022-2023 candidate's VIN against the recall record before buying.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
