Tesla Model X 1st Gen
2015–2026 · suv
Three-row, six-or-seven-passenger SUV built on the Model S platform. Falcon-wing double-hinged rear passenger doors. Dual-motor AWD standard; tri-motor Plaid added with the 2021 refresh. Battery options spanned 60D/75D/90D/100D/Long Range/Plaid. First deliveries late 2015. Major refresh in 2021 paralleled the Model S refresh, yoke steering wheel (later optional), landscape screen, second-row touchscreen. The most complicated Tesla in terms of door mechanisms and second-row seat hardware, which is also where most early reliability complaints landed.
Watch out: Falcon-wing door alignment and motor failures are the headline complaint, doors that won't open, doors that don't seal properly, water intrusion. Tesla has issued multiple service bulletins and warranty replacements. The second-row 'monopost' seats on early cars had recall history for fold/track issues. The drive-unit 'milling' noise pattern from the early Model S carries over to early X. The complex powered-everything interior is generally where Xs accumulate ownership cost vs S of the same generation.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
