Subaru WRX STI 4th Generation STI (VA chassis)
2015–2021 · VA · sedan
The VA STI ran from 2015 through 2021 as a stand-alone model after the WRX split off the Impreza name. It kept the EJ257 2.5L turbo flat-four (around 305 hp), six-speed manual, DCCD-controlled symmetrical AWD, and Brembo brakes. Special editions included Type RA (2018), S209 (2019, US-only), and various Series. The next STI did not arrive with the VB generation, making this the last STI sedan in the US for now.
Watch out: Owner reports of EJ257 ringland and rod-bearing failures on tuned cars, AVCS phaser solenoid failures, and head-gasket weeping on older high-mileage units. The non-STI VA WRX uses the FA20DIT engine with its own watchouts (different from the EJ257 in this STI).
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
