Subaru Impreza 4th Generation (GJ sedan / GP hatch)

2012–2016 · GJ/GP · sedan

The fourth-gen Impreza switched to the FB20 2.0L naturally aspirated flat-four (around 148 hp) with either a five-speed manual or Subaru's Lineartronic CVT. AWD standard. Sedan body uses GJ chassis code, hatch uses GP. WRX continued separately on a different chassis. This generation made the Impreza much more efficient and more comfortable, at the cost of some character.

Watch out: Owner reports of FB20 oil consumption (covered by the 2016 Subaru oil-consumption class-action settlement that included Impreza 2012-2013 with FB20 in the US), early CVT software shudder on cold starts, and aging Lineartronic transmissions needing fluid service that many owners skip.
