Saturn Ion Delta Platform
2003–2007 · Delta · sedan
Replaced Saturn's beloved S-Series. GM Delta platform. Offered as a conventional 4-door sedan and as a 'Quad Coupe' with rear-hinged half-doors (no B-pillar) — quirky but cargo-friendly. The Ion Red Line ran the supercharged 2.0L Ecotec LSJ (205 hp), shared with the Cobalt SS Supercharged.
Watch out: Electric power steering motor failure is the famous Ion problem — GM issued an extended warranty, but well past the cutoff date now. Failure mode is total assist loss; the car remains steerable but heavy. Ignition switch was part of GM's 2014 mass recall (Cobalt-family fatal defect, NHTSA campaigns 14V047 / 14V400).
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
