Plymouth Prowler Production Run
1997–2002 · convertible
Chrysler's production hot-rod — 2-seat aluminum-intensive roadster with exposed front 'Indy racer-style' wheels. Produced 1997, paused, then 1999-2002 (badged Chrysler Prowler from 2001 after Plymouth was killed). 3.5L EGE/EGG V6 (214 hp early, 253 hp from 1999), 4-speed AutoStick automatic only — no manual was ever offered. Most Prowlers came in unique factory colors (Prowler Purple, Prowler Yellow, etc.).
Watch out: Aluminum body panel replacement after even minor damage is a specialty-shop affair and parts availability is now thin — verify panel condition before purchase. No-manual transmission limits the enthusiast appeal vs. the styling promise. EGE/EGG V6 is mechanically conventional; no specific Prowler-exclusive engine issues. Soft-top mechanism quirks at higher mileage.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
