Plymouth Neon 1st & 2nd Generation

1995–2001 · PL · sedan

Chrysler compact sold under both Plymouth and Dodge badges. First gen (1995-1999, PL platform) — coupe and sedan, 2.0L SOHC or DOHC 4-cyl. Second gen (2000-2001 Plymouth, continued as Dodge through 2005) — sedan only. 2001 was the last year for both the Plymouth Neon and the Plymouth brand itself.

Watch out: Head-gasket failures on the 2.0L SOHC are the famous Neon issue — pre-2001 cars almost universally need at least one head gasket job by 100k mi. Chrysler revised the head bolts and gasket spec for later production. Rust around the rear wheel arches and lower doors is common. Interior plastics fade and crack quickly.
