Nissan 300ZX Z32

19901996 · Z32 · coupe

Sold in the US 1990-1996 as the Z32 chassis 300ZX. Naturally aspirated VG30DE (3.0L DOHC V6, around 222 hp) or twin-turbo VG30DETT (around 300 hp) with 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. RWD. Offered as 2-seat coupe, 2+2 coupe (longer wheelbase), and convertible (NA only). The 300ZX Turbo was a halo car for Nissan in the 90s and one of the most technically dense Japanese cars of the era.

Watch out: VG30DETT timing belt service is the dominant ownership cost. The belt is an interference-engine job that should be done at the published interval, and on a Z32 the labor is heavy because access to the rear bank requires significant disassembly. Many owners bundle water pump, tensioner, idler, cam and crank seals, and rear main into the same job. Owner reports of HVAC blend door actuator failures, brittle vacuum lines on the turbo cars, and harness corrosion are well-documented. Pre-purchase: get a leakdown test and verify timing belt service history with receipts.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
