Mini Countryman 1st Generation (R60)

First-generation Mini Countryman — Mini's first SUV, sharing its platform with the BMW X1 (E84). Same Prince N18 four-cylinder engines as the R56 (Cooper, Cooper S, JCW). ALL4 all-wheel drive optional. The Countryman gave Mini access to the booming compact-SUV segment but enthusiasts split on whether it was 'really a Mini.'

Watch out: Same N18 engine issues as the R56 — carbon buildup, water pump, timing-chain tensioner on early units. ALL4 AWD: Haldex coupling fluid service often neglected (similar pattern to VW 4Motion). Cooper S Countryman is the enthusiast pick of the R60 generation; JCW is rare and tuned hard.
