Bold redesign over the W210. SBC (Sensotronic Brake Control) electrohydraulic brakes early on — controversial recall magnet. M272 V6 and M273 V8 from 2006 LCI. M156 V8 in the E63 AMG (2007-2009). Diesel E320 CDI is a long-haul cult favorite. AMG variants used the M113 5.5L supercharged V8 (E55) early, then the M156 NA V8 (E63).

Watch out: M272 V6 balance shaft gear wear — a defining W211-era failure, well-documented and the subject of a major recall / class action. SBC brake module failures on pre-2006 cars. Air suspension (Airmatic) compressor and strut failures. Rust around the rear wheel arches and trunk lid on early cars.
