Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210 (2nd E-Class Generation)

19962002 · W210 · sedan

The W210 is the second-generation E-Class, sold in the US from 1996 through 2002 in sedan and S210 wagon forms. It introduced the four-headlight 'four-eye' face that defined Mercedes styling for a decade. Powertrains include the M104 (early), M112 V6, M113 V8 and OM606 / OM612 diesels.

Watch out: W210 corrosion is the dominant issue. Lower-cost paint and the biodegradable wiring insulation used on certain 1996-1999 cars are widely documented enthusiast concerns. Owner reports of rust on rear wheel arches, jacking points, trunk floor and around the fuel filler are routine. M104 head gasket and oil cooler weeps continue from W124.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
