Mercedes-Benz C-Class W202 (1st Generation)

19942000 · W202 · sedan

The W202 is the first-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class, replacing the W201 190E. US sales ran from 1994 through 2000. Engines include the M111 inline-four, M104 inline-six (early), M112 V6 (later) and the AMG-developed M104 inline-six in the C36 AMG followed by the M113 V8 in the C43 AMG.

Watch out: Owner reports of biodegradable wiring loom failures on certain mid-to-late 1990s Mercedes models (a documented soy-based insulation era) and head gasket / oil cooler seal weeps on inline-sixes are recurring. Rust on jacking points, rear wheel arches and trunk floor is a routine W202 concern.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
