Mazda Millenia Single Generation (TA)
1995–2002 · TA · sedan
The Millenia was Mazda's near-luxury sedan that started life as a planned Amati Motors model before Mazda canceled the Amati luxury brand. US trims included Millenia (KL-ZE 2.5L V6) and Millenia S (KJ-ZEM 2.3L Miller-cycle V6 with a Lysholm supercharger and intercooler making around 210 hp). The Miller-cycle engine was unusual production technology and is the reason the car has a cult following.
Watch out: Owner reports of intercooler coolant pump (electric water pump on the Miller-cycle car) failure causing power loss, supercharger oil service neglect, and the KJ-ZEM and KL-ZE engines both being timing-belt designs that need service around 60,000 miles. Parts for the Miller-cycle drivetrain are increasingly scarce.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
