Mazda Mazda2 US (DE-based)

20112014 · DE · hatchback

Sold in the US from the 2011 to 2014 model years, the Mazda2 was a Mazda Demio-derived subcompact hatch with the 1.5L MZR (around 100 hp), a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, and a curb weight under 2,400 lb. Praised by enthusiasts for handling balance, criticized by everyone else for sparse equipment. Discontinued in the US after 2014. The current global Mazda2 was never sold in the US under that name (the Toyota Yaris iA / Scion iA was the Mazda2 sedan rebadged).

Watch out: Owner reports of rear wheel arch and rocker rust on salt-belt cars (the era and platform are vulnerable), worn front control-arm bushings, and aging four-speed automatic shudder. The car is otherwise mechanically simple.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
