Third-generation Discovery, sold as 'LR3' in North America. L319 platform, integrated body-frame construction (a stiff ladder frame integrated with a monocoque shell). 4.0L V6 (US) / 4.4L V8 (US) / 2.7L TDV6 diesel (UK/Europe). Introduced the Terrain Response off-road traction system. Air suspension standard.

Watch out: 4.4L Jaguar AJ-V8 (US LR3): timing-chain tensioner wear at high mileage, oil-pan gasket leaks. 4.0L V6 (US LR3 base): generally durable but less common. Air-suspension compressor and EAS sensors: same wear pattern as all air-sprung Land Rovers — budget for replacement past 100k miles. ZF 6-speed: well regarded; fluid service every 60k-80k miles.
