Infiniti Q45 3rd Gen (F50)
2002–2006 · F50 · sedan
Third (and final) generation Q45, sold in the US 2002-2006 on the F50 chassis derived from the Nissan President. 4.5L VK45DE DOHC V8 (around 340 hp), paired to a 5-speed automatic. RWD. Notable for its distinctive seven-element headlight pods and aggressive styling. Discontinued after 2006 without a direct replacement; the Infiniti M (Y50) took over the brand's full-size luxury duties at a lower price point.
Watch out: Low US sales volume during its run means parts availability and qualified service are spotty today, particularly for the active suspension and electronic options. VK45DE timing chain stretch and intake-valve carbon buildup show up at high mileage. Owner reports of HVAC blend-door actuator failures and dashboard electronics gremlins are common. The active rear steering (where equipped) is another low-volume system to inspect. Pre-purchase: scan for stored chassis and powertrain codes, confirm a Nissan/Infiniti specialist can support the car in your area, and budget for one-time deferred maintenance on any survivor.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
