Infiniti M Y51 (M37 / M56 / M Hybrid)
2011–2013 · Y51 · sedan
Third-generation Infiniti M, sold in the US 2011-2013 on the Y51 chassis. M37 used the 3.7L VQ37VHR V6 (around 330 hp), M56 used the 5.6L VK56VD V8 (around 420 hp), and a hybrid variant (M35h) paired the VQ35HR with an electric motor. 7-speed automatic across the lineup. RWD or AWD. For the 2014 model year the M was renamed to Q70 as part of Infiniti's brand-wide nomenclature change, but the chassis continued unchanged.
Watch out: VQ37VHR timing chain stretch and intake-valve carbon buildup (the engine uses port and direct injection on later applications, though M37 is port-only) become visible past 100k miles. Owner reports of front strut bearing knock and electronic shifter quirks are common. The M56's VK56VD with direct injection benefits from intake cleaning at high mileage. Hybrid M35h cars carry the added complexity of a 12-year-old high-voltage system and dedicated cooling. Pre-purchase: scan all modules for stored codes, verify hybrid pack state of health on M35h cars, and listen for chain rattle on cold start.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
