Infiniti M Y50 (M35 / M45)
2006–2010 · Y50 · sedan
Second-generation Infiniti M, sold in the US 2006-2010 on the Y50 chassis. M35 used the 3.5L VQ35HR V6 (around 303 hp) and M45 used the 4.5L VK45DE V8 (around 335 hp). 5-speed automatic on early years, 7-speed automatic on later cars. RWD or AWD (AWD on M35x). FM platform shared with the G35/G37 and FX. Replaced the short-lived Y34 M45 and represented the brand's first credible volume entry against the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class.
Watch out: VQ35HR oil consumption is well-documented, especially on early high-mileage cars, and shows up at the dipstick rather than as a leak. Owner reports of timing chain rattle at high mileage are common on both V6 and V8 cars. The hydraulic active rear steering (where equipped, on AWD trims and some sport packages) is a low-volume system that can fail and is costly to repair. Sunroof drain clogs causing carpet and trunk-floor staining are widely reported. Pre-purchase: check oil consumption (low dipstick is the tell), inspect carpets for water staining, and confirm the rear active steering (if equipped) operates without warning lights.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
