Infiniti I30 A32 / A33

19962001 · A32 · sedan

Entry-level Infiniti sedan, sold in the US 1996-2001. Built on the same A32 (1996-1999) and A33 (2000-2001) platforms as the contemporary Nissan Maxima, with upgraded trim, suspension tuning, and equipment. 3.0L VQ30DE DOHC V6 (around 190-227 hp depending on year), with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. FWD. Replaced for 2002 by the I35 with the 3.5L VQ35DE.

Watch out: Catalytic converter failure on 2000-2001 (A33-era) cars and the resulting upstream cat-material ingestion issue is the most-reported durability problem, mirroring the Nissan Maxima of the same era. Owner reports of crankshaft position sensor failures (intermittent no-start) and intake manifold gasket leaks are common at higher mileage. Front motor mounts wear out and produce a noticeable shudder under acceleration. Pre-purchase: scan for stored P0420 codes, verify cat replacement history, and check the front motor mount.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
