Hyundai Kona Electric OS EV + SX2 EV

Hyundai's first long-range affordable EV in the US, launched late 2018 as a 2019 model on a converted version of the gas Kona platform. Initial spec: 64 kWh battery, single front motor at 201 hp, 258 miles of EPA range. A 2024 redesign moved to the SX2 platform with a larger 64.8 kWh battery and refreshed exterior matching the new Kona. FWD only; no AWD option.

Watch out: REAL ISSUE: 2019-2020 Kona Electric was subject to a major battery fire recall (NHTSA campaign 21V-074) covering LG Energy Solution battery packs that could short-circuit and ignite while charging. Verify the battery pack replacement has been performed, not just the software update.
