Honda CR-V 2nd Generation

20022006 · RD4-RD9 · suv

The 2nd-gen CR-V launched 2002 with the K24A1 2.4L i-VTEC making 160hp, the new K-series replacing the 1st-gen B20. Five-door SUV body, FWD or Real Time 4WD. Manual transmission still available on early cars. Built in Sayama, Japan and later in East Liberty, Ohio. The generation that took the CR-V from quirky-Japan-export to mainstream American family SUV.

Watch out: Rear differential fluid neglect is the classic owner-error fault on Real Time 4WD cars. The pump and differential need fluid changes well short of the door-jamb sticker interval to avoid noise and binding on tight turns.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
