Honda Civic 7th Generation

2001–2005 · ES/EM2/EP3 · sedan

Seventh-gen Civic launched for 2001 model year. Sedan is chassis ES, coupe is EM2, and the US-market Si is a 3-door hatchback on chassis EP3. Base engines are the D17 family (D17A1, D17A2, D17A6 1.7L). The Si EP3 used the K20A3 2.0L i-VTEC rated at 160 hp, shared with the Acura RSX base model. Switched from double-wishbone to MacPherson strut front suspension.

Watch out: Automatic transmissions on the D17 cars (2001-2004) have a widely documented failure pattern; Honda extended warranty coverage and replaced many under a service campaign. EP3 Si owners report 5th-gear pop-out on high-mileage manuals. Confirm trans service history before buying.
