GMC Jimmy 2nd Generation (GMT330)

19952005 · GMT330 · suv

The second-generation Jimmy is the GMC twin of the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, built on GM's GMT330 platform (a derivative of the GMT400 truck architecture sized for the compact S-series). The single available engine was the 4.3L Vortec V6 (L35 CPI, then L35/LU3 central-port-injection variants). 2WD and 4WD; 4L60E automatic and a five-speed manual were offered. Two-door and four-door body styles. The Envoy (1998-2001) launched as a top-trim Jimmy variant before splitting off into its own model for 2002. Jimmy production in North America ran through 2005.

Watch out: Frame, rocker panel, and lower-door rust in salt-belt states is the defining long-term issue. Owner reports of intake manifold gasket leaks on the 4.3L Vortec and 4L60E transmission wear at higher mileage are well-documented.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
