Dodge Stratus 2nd Generation (incl. coupe)
2001–2006 · sedan
The second-generation Stratus (2001-2006) actually wore two completely different cars under one nameplate. The sedan was a Chrysler-built midsize on the JR platform with the 2.4L World four or the 2.7L LH V6. The Stratus coupe was a Mitsubishi Eclipse with Dodge badges, built in Normal, Illinois at the joint Diamond-Star plant, sharing its drivetrain (2.4L four or 3.0L Mitsubishi V6) and chassis with the Eclipse. The two cars share almost nothing other than the name. The Stratus was retired after 2006 and replaced by the Avenger.
Watch out: On the sedan, owner reports of the 2.7L LH V6 sludging up and failing prematurely if oil change intervals were stretched. On the coupe, the Mitsubishi 3.0L V6 develops its own pattern of issues including timing belt service intervals that must be honored. Front strut wear and inner tie-rod end play are common on either body style as the cars age.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
