Plug-in hybrid V8 — S68 4.4L twin-turbo plus a single electric motor at the 8-speed ZF, combined output 717 hp / 738 lb-ft. M xDrive AWD with RWD mode retained. Curb weight crosses 5,300 lb, which has split the M-fan base. Touring (wagon) version returns to the M5 lineup for the first time since 1992.

Watch out: Too new for a definitive watchout. Forum chatter focuses on the weight (a real character change versus F90) and software/charging quirks of the PHEV system more than any mechanical failure.
