Chris Bangle's most polarizing design — the rear deck earned the 'Bangle butt' nickname. First iDrive (controversial). N62 V8 in the 745i/750i, N73 V12 in the 760i. The E65 is cheap to buy and stunningly expensive to keep running.

Watch out: N62 V8 coolant transfer pipe — engine-out repair, $$$. Alusil cylinder walls scuff with worn rings, leading to oil consumption. Air suspension compressors fail. iDrive 1.0 modules age poorly. Buy with eyes wide open.
