BMW 5 Series G30 (7th Generation)

2017–2023 · G30 · sedan

The G30 brought the modular B-family engines to the 5 Series. B46 turbo-4 in the 530i, B58 turbo-6 in the 540i, N63R V8 in the M550i. Mid-cycle LCI in 2021 added a bigger grille, mild-hybrid 48V on most engines, and a touchscreen iDrive update. The B58 is the highlight — widely considered one of BMW's most durable modern engines.

Watch out: Electric water pump failure (common to N20/N55/B58 family) can strand the car; budget for a replacement in the 80k-120k window. Battery registration required after replacement on all G30s.
