The 2 Series picked up where the E82 1 Series left off — small RWD BMW coupe, sub-3 Series price. 228i (N20 / B46 turbo-4), M235i then M240i (N55 turbo-6, then B58). F23 convertible. The M2 F87 is the M variant on the same architecture. 6-speed manual stayed available — important to anyone buying used.

Watch out: N20 228i: timing chain stretch (60-80k miles) is the headline. N55 M235i / B58 M240i: more reliable mechanically; electric water pump still the recurring big-ticket spend in the 80-120k window.
