BMW 1 Series E82 (1st Generation US)

2008–2013 · E82 · coupe

US-market 1 Series came as the E82 coupe and E88 convertible only — the F20 hatchback was never sold here. 128i used the N52 naturally-aspirated inline-six; 135i used the N54 (twin-turbo) then N55 (single-turbo) from 2011. The 1M Coupe — a separate spec entirely — was the limited-run, N54-powered enthusiast hero. Production for the US ended August 2013.

Watch out: N54 135i: HPFP (high-pressure fuel pump) failures — BMW extended the warranty to 120k miles when this issue peaked. Turbo wastegate rattle and injector failures common. 128i N52: water pump and electric thermostat fail around 80-100k. 1M: collectible — verify provenance and miles.
