Audi A8 D3 (2nd Generation)

2004–2010 · D3 · sedan

Aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF) body. 4.2L V8 (BFM / BVJ), 6.0L W12 (BHT), 4.2 TDI V8 diesel, and the S8 D3 (BSM 5.2L FSI V10, derived from Lamborghini Gallardo, 444 hp). MMI 2G infotainment introduced. A long-wheelbase A8L was the volume seller; standard wheelbase rare in the US.

Watch out: V8 timing chain rattle (back of engine, transmission-out service to fix) on neglected cars. Air suspension compressor failures and bag leaks. W12 cars: catastrophic if neglected, and parts logistics are expensive. S8 V10: same FSI carbon and chain-tensioner story as the V10 S6.
