CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed May 15, 2026
TL;DR Satin-to-gloss aerosol finish for engine bay plastic, rubber, and metal — no sling documented in 620 reviews, dries to the touch without attracting dust. DANGER signal word from the SDS; wear goggles and apply outdoors or with the garage door open.
What it is and how it performs
Mist lightly over a clean, cool engine bay and let dry — one coat gives satin, additional coats add gloss, and multiple reviewers confirm the label holds up. No wiping required; the surface tacks off within minutes. No pooling or streaking across 620 reviews, and the finish resists dust and grit in Florida heat-and-sand conditions. Durability data is anecdotal — one reviewer confirmed strong results at one week but community week-count tracking is unavailable.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Buyers who want a quick-drying satin-to-gloss finish without wiping and can work outside or in an open garage — 4.8 stars across 620 reviews. Skip it for a true matte with no sheen, or if your garage is enclosed; the high solvent content makes ventilation non-optional and a water-based silicone from this category is the better choice.
Safety and environmental impact
The SDS classifies this DANGER-level product on aspiration hazard from the petroleum carrier (swallowing risk) and flammable aerosol propellant — neither a spray-application health concern. H335 respiratory irritation is the relevant inhalation code: the aerosol format makes spray mist at hood height a meaningful exposure route, so ventilation and goggles are warranted. H315 skin and H319 eye irritation are also classified; gloves for extended sessions. No PFAS, no Prop 65-listed substances. Leave-on product, silicone film-former is not readily biodegradable, VOC is high — Environment score 5.0/10.

This Engine Bay Dressing is Awesome
I’m a “car guy” and a longtime fan of Griot’s Garage. I have purchased many of their fine products over the years and this Engine Bay Dressing has to be one of my favorite products… It’s truly amazing. If you’re someone like me who enjoys detailing your car and keeping your engine looking ‘spotless’, then this Engine Bay Dressing is a must-have. Perfect for car shows and Cars & Coffee events. This is clear spray-on treatment that leaves the engine bay sparkling and looking like new! It adds a beautiful luster to the engine and engine bay, especially rubber and plastic parts, but it also brightens surfaces such as valve covers, manifolds, metal clamps, aluminum fittings, wires, etc. This spray is not a paint or lacquer. The spray goes on clear and it brightens all the nooks and crannies without attracting dust or dirt. It dries to touch fairly quickly depending on how heavy you apply it. The engine bay photos attached is my 37-year-old 1987 Porsche 928S4 in original condition. I can’t recommend this product highly enough!
